I have been working in fashion for a number of years as Buyer, working in M&S for the last 3 years. Thing are pretty challenging at the moment, we kind of got a lot pf product lines wrong and so performance has not been that good and we got a bit of a bollocking from our bosses. I am worried that certain departments within M&S are going to get shut down or certainly down-sized in the coming year! Not one to get caught with the hot potato I have started looking at the various fashion jobs out there on a number of job sites. If I am honest, I was bit disappointed by how poorly fashion jobs are being paid at the moment. For example, merchandiser’s with 5 years experience are being offered between £30 – to £40k!. I was expecting that to be at least £5k higher. Designer jobs are attracting from £30k onwards- it looks to me like jobs in fashion are actually paying less! Any thoughts?

In case you are wondering, I have been getting my result from numerous job sites including; totaljobs, reed, CareersandjobsUk, jobsite and they are all coming back with the same kind of figures for pay, which makes sense really as they all advertise jobs for the various recruitment agencies and employers…. interestingly, I have even comes across the same jobs adverts on these different sites and the terms of offer are the same, so they must be genuine. I have sometimes heard that these jobs adverts are not genuine. I would dispute that.
